Question by Stefania: My mother is married and is getting a divorce, is she entitled to 50% of property and assets?
She is a permament resident not a citizen yet. So when she got her and got approved for employment, she has been working. All her taxes what they filed married jointly every year. Went to his debt from the IRS. His debt was over 100,000, what he owed the IRS. Then she got into credit repair, and also fixed his credit. So through all the years out, she has been working. Now her husband and my mother are married for almost 7 years. 2008 my mothers husband brother died. So he had inherited money.

My mother not knowing what she was doing was signing everything as a co signer. The house, the business, and now he say nothing is hers. We already have a lawyer. But it was a quick visit. I think he has used her for the IRS. And he did not even applied for her citizenship! What is her percentage out of this marriage. They bought the house, but she had put in her money too, with mortgage pay and everything. What can my mother expect, i think she has been set up. PLEASE HELP!

Best answer:

Answer by allen
If she signed a prenuptial marriage agreement = she gets nothing that is exclusively his

If she is married under 10 years = she gets nothing that is exclusively his

However if she did not sign a prenuptial marriage agreement and since she is married under 7 years she is allowed to claim her share in anything that they mutually own.

Also *very important* even if her name isn’t signed as a co-owner but she can show proof of contribution then its still considered mutually owned. She will have to produce proof of this though.
For example, if she can show that from her paycheck payments for the mortgage (which she did not co-sign for) were made then it does not matter that it is on his name exclusively. Based on the numbers she paid she can claimed a share of the ownership.

I noticed that my interest rate on my credit cards has decreased. For example: In Feb it was 18.74% and now it is 16.24% Does this have to do with the Feds lowering the interest rate? I completely paid off two of my credit cards in March. I’ve made some purchases on the credit card since then but I have been paying almost the whole balance amount every month.

Question by : Credit Fraud alert on my file…i can’t check my credit…why?
I was sent 350 dollars from my mother in law through money gram. they wouldnt release the funds to me, said she had to call in. they claimed that someone with my name had been recieving lots of money grams and was under investigation for money laundering. I was freaked out, but after a few days, I was ok because i was sure that this was mistaken identity. weeks later the funds have not been release, I logged onto annual report.com to view my report like I did a few years ago, this time it stated that there was a freeze on my acount and there was a fraud alert in place. Now I am freaking out. I just recently had to get replacement id for me and my children because last summer I lost all of our documents in my wallet, and now this? I am a single mother of seven.

When I tried to check my report, it asked me questions it had never asked me before…showed me addresses I hadn’t seen, what do I do?

Best answer:

Question by PRP: Credit Counseling vs. Bankruptcy?
If I’ve already decided that I want to fill for bankruptcy, should I waste my time and there’s going to see a credit counselor before if file? I have an appointment to see one, but already know that I don’t intend to pay back all these bills, even if he says I can afford too, over the next 5 years. I already know how to manage money…. I did it for 30 years without a problem, before my job was downsized, and can do it again once I get rid of this house payment. What do you think I could gain by going, before it’s mandatoried through the bankruptcy system?

Best answer:

Answer by Sgt Big Red
You will have to go through credit counseling first anyways.
Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005
With limited exceptions, people who plan to file for bankruptcy protection must get credit counseling from a government-approved organization within 180 days before they file. They also must complete a debtor education course to have their debts discharged.
As a rule, pre-bankruptcy credit counseling and pre-discharge debtor education may not be provided at the same time. Credit counseling must take place before you file for bankruptcy; debtor education must take place after you file.
Here is a link to locate an accredited agencies;

Hope this has been of help..

Question by : I was able to remove 2 Adverse Accounts on my Credit Report. Will my Credit Score go up?
I recently took an in-depth look at my Credit Report and I had 5 Adverse Accounts. Three have been paid off since I graduated from college 09 and went in the military. The two accounts I didn’t pay off when I paid the rest was because I did not know they were there. They have been on there since 2009 both totaling about $ 1,000. I called the collection agencies and found out the accounts were two different charges for the same doctors visit. Long story short my school automatically provides its students with Health Insurance whether we know or not and the hospital charged this company when I was fully covered by another company. I had the charges removed. Now will my score go up even though I have 3 other adverse accounts that have been paid off? I am paying on a loan and have not missed or been late on a payment for two years. Please advise…

Best answer:

Answer by Steve D
It should go up a little, but still having the adverse marks on your report will continue to drag down your score.

Answer by Love Me or Hate Me
I was told that they are just as harmful to your credit as a bankruptcy. I don’t know if they work. We went ahead with the bankruptcy because the debt was so great and if it is going to look just as bad on a credit report then we are wiping it out. Good luck though whatever you do.

Question by JOHN: How close to the prime rate will a non-business high credit score customer get for 30,000 dollar loan?
Curious what the interest rate would be on a loan of this size. It would be with a nearly perfect credit score.

Best answer:

Answer by H. A
It depends on whether or not it was collateralized. If it is, you could expect about one percent over prime, but probably more like two percent. If it was a signature loan, based on your personal financial and good score, you might get two percent over, but more likely three percent. It also depends a lot on how good of banking relationship you have with the loan officer.

Question by mr_michaelj: How bad it is going to be to start a $ 10,000 off of credit card?
I know it depends on my credit score and interest rates on my card but I’d like to get your thoughts on how bad it would be to start a business on credit card with 10,000 debt? What are some of the bad consequences that I don’t know about doing this type of thing? Is there any other way you would suggest to start a business with a 10,000 initial investment?

Best answer:

Answer by Exeter
You are going to be absolutely destroyed by interest payments if you use a credit card. Credit card interest rates are usually around 20%. A startup business won’t start earning money right away, so you will probably be stuck making close to minimum payments, meanwhile the interest rate adds 20% of your balance to the debt every month. So, for the first while, even though you make payments, your debt will still be increasing.

You really need to get a proper loan for this.

Experian, Equifax, and …? Also, what does each one of them show? Like, do they tell how much you owe, your balances, ect.. Which one is the most important when trying to get a car, house, ect.?

Also, I have a Discover Card and they offer a tool to keep track of your Experian credit score and give you tips on how you can improve it and updates it every month. Everytime they update this score, does it put a hit on my credit report?

Best answer:

Answer by CatDad
TransUnion is the 3rd. The credit score is just a 3 digit number. It is not a credit report.
Credit reports show balances owned and credit limits. You can get a free credit report at http://www.annualcreditreport.com – This is the real free site to get your credit report once a year without a credit card.
You are not penalized for checking your own credit score.
FICO is the most heavily used score, and it’s not free. You can buy it for a one-time fee of $ 19.95 at: http://www.myfico.com – There is no need to sign up for monthly credit monitoring. Just buy the one-time only score so that your credit card won’t get charged every month.

I do not have any negative items in my report, everything is in good standing.

Question by : Applying for credit card; currently unemployed but start full time work in under 2 months?
So I just graduated from college and have signed a full time job offer that I start in under 2 months. Until then, I’m technically unemployed, and I need money to tide myself over until then. I was looking at applying for a credit card, but most the ones I’ve seen ask for a current place of employment and salary. Can I write down the job I start in 2 months, since I have signed the offer and know what my salary will be?

Best answer:

Answer by bdancer222
Save the effort and the dings on your score for the hard inquiries. You won’t get approved.

Cards want actual proof of your income, as in copies of W2 or tax returns. They will also want to see at least 12 month of employment history, especially if you don’t have an existing credit history.

You need to find some minimum wage job to tide you over. By the way, a signed job offer does NOT mean you are guaranteed that job. There are all sorts off things that can happen over the next two months that could cause that job to not happen.

Answer by VaTreasures
If he is charging $ 20/30 for getting the credit report that is reasonable. If he is charging more tell him you are taking your business elsewhere. It could be also that he was not able to get you a loan and he is trying to get re-imbursed for his expenses.

Question by Brittany L: can i get a mobile home loan filling joint with both are credit scores being 545?

Best answer:

Answer by Judy
You may have to come up with a 10 to 20% down payment with a score like that.
Mortgage lenders do not go by the scores – they view your reports in detail along with your salary and employment. So don’t sweat the score. Sweat fixing up your reports.
Get them for free at annualcreditreport.com and review them carefully.
Any credit card debt you have will directly reduce your monthly amount you can afford.
There is a great book at bookstores
Credit Repair for Dummies
Cost about 20 dollars – worth it’s weight in gold.
Carrying credit card debt over 30% of your available credit starts reducing your rating – try to pay them down if you have any.
retail store credit or anything i need one also are there places that will really let you buy now pay later sites. Are there sites like that for computers? Have you tried one of the sites and if so did you get your merchandise?

Best answer:

Answer by kbarmol
There are credit cards that are secured by money that you have in the bank. And yes, there are computer sites that will finance your computer purchase. I haven’t tried these sites but I have seen them on line. Just beware of the interest rates that the credit card companies may charge. Bad credit is a really hard thing to correct. It takes time and lots of good credit in order to build up your credit score. Good luck. Just be honest with the creditors and maybe they will take a chance on you. Have you thought about a bank loan? You would probably get a better rate of interest than a credit card. Just be honest with them and let them know that you want to build good credit. Tell them upfront that you have had credit problems in the past because they will definitely find out.

Question by michelle j: I am needing help repairing my credit. Can someone suggest a good repair book?
I need a book that can show me how to dispute, delete, and investigate items that are not mine. How to remove inquires. Any suggestion would help. Thank you

Best answer:

Answer by Night Wind
You can do all of that on-line. I challenged mine and several things were removed. They will investigate anything you say doesn’t belong on there, even things that do belong on there. If the agency that placed them there doesn’t respond back then the credit bureau will automatically remove it. It’s amazing how easy it is. You can do a search with a search engine for credit repair.
