Best answer:

Answer by Stephen T
The FICO score is not required to be given on your free annual report. To see it you will have to order it from the credit bureau – costing between 5-15 dollars.

Question by MaleMan: Checking credit score Hurts my credit?
I was wondering if I can check my credit rating. I’ve never checked it before.
I’m a student that was just recently denied a student loan. So I would like to know why. I’m wondering what my credit score is and would like to check it.

But does checking the credit score hurt my credit??
Also, where is a good place I can check my credit score??

Best answer:

Answer by My Take on It
Checking your own credit reports or score will not affect your credit.
It is considered a soft pull as opposed to a hard pull when creditors check your credit when you apply for a loan.

You can get a FREE copy of your credit report annually at:

http://www.annualcreditreport.com

The other services that advertise on TV will want your credit card or other form of payment to enroll you in some service if you forget to cancel, which a lot of people do. The above address is the only true FREE report site.

Your FICO score, costs money though. You cannot get that free.

Question by The Peav: Upon Marriage – What Takes Place Financially? Credit Worries..?
My fiancee and I desperately want to get married. I have my concerns about buying a house.

I have had poor credit that I have worked tirelessly to improve, seeing it get over 650 (up from 509) in less than a year. Her credit is, by all accounts, quite bad.

I know that our credit scores combine, and that my credit rating would plummet if we get married. It’s killing us that we almost have to wait to get married until I am able to buy us a house.

How much of this is true? What more can any of your great people tell me about this? Benefits, Down Turns?

What other financial changes take place with marriage that could be seen as either a positive or a negative?

Any links would be fantastic. Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by thealmightycynic
Your finances only change if you choose to combine them. My husband and I had been married for over a year before we got a joint account. We both still have our own credit scores, and the titles to our cars are in our separate names. If combining finances will hurt your chances at buying a house, just keep things separate until your fiancee’s finances are more settled.

Question by ??: Please help with my accounting homework – Bond Entries?
Hello, the following is my accounting home work question:

Instructions:
For each situation prepare the appropriate journal entry for redemption of bonds.

(a) Gland Corporation retired $ 140,000 face value, 12% bonds on June 30, 2010 at 102. The carrying value of the bonds at the redemption date was $ 122,500. The bonds pay annual interest, and the interest payment on June 30, 2010, has been made and reported.

(b) Hutch Inc. retired $ 170,000 face value, 12.5% bonds on June 30, 2010 at 98. The carrying value of the bonds at the redemption date was $ 184,000. The bonds pay annual interest, and the interest payment due on June 30, 2010 had been made and recorded.

So, a and b are the homework problems and I am supposed to write the journal entries. I am just so confused, the carrying value is confusing me I think the most. According to the book, I think the journal enties are supposed go by the following guidelines:

Bonds Payable (dr)
Primium on Bonds Payable (dr)
Loss or Gain on Bond redemption (dr?)
Cash (cr)

The loss and gain is really confusing me to, I do not know for what ammounts to debit or credit any of the fields, please help!!!!!

Best answer:

Answer by JKRB
If the carrying amount is more than the redemption price, there is a gain; if it is less there is a loss. Also, if the carrying amount is more than the face value, the bonds were issued at a premium; if it is less, they were issued at a discount.
a)
Redemption price = 140,000 x 102% = 142,800
Carrying value = 122,500
142,800 – 122,500 = 20,300 Loss
So write down what you know. You know you will debit Bonds Payable for 140,000 to take it off the books. You also know there is loss of 20,300, and losses are debits. You also know that you will credit cash for 142,800, the amount paid for the redemption. So now you have:
Dr Bonds Payable 140,000
Dr Loss on Redemption of Bonds 20,300
Cr Cash 142,800
In order to have debits and credits equal, you will need to make a credit entry for 17,500. Since the carrying value was less than the face value, the entry will be to Discount on Bonds Payable.
Cr Discount on Bonds Payable 17,500

b)
Same explanation as above, except these bonds were originally issued at a premium.
Redemption price = 170,000 x 98% = 166,600
Carrying value = 184,000
184,000 – 166,600 = 17,400 Gain
Dr Bonds Payable 170,000
Dr Premium on Bonds Payable 13,800
Cr Gain on Redemption of Bonds 17,400
Cr Cash 166,400

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Business Statistics Homework-Partially finished, need help please.?
1. Delta Airlines quotes a flight time of 2 hours, 5 minutes for its flights from Cincinnati to Tampa. Suppose we believe that actual flight times are uniformly distributed between 2 hours and 2 hours, 20 minutes.
a. Show the graph of the probability density function for flight time.
Got the graph
b. What is the probability that the flight will be no more than 5 minutes late?
f(x)={1/145-120/0={1/30/0=.04
I know that’s wrong, but I don’t know what I need to correct.
c. What is the probability that the flight will be more than 10 minutes late?
f(x)={1/150-120/0={1/30/0=.03333
as is this one.
2. For borrowers with good credit scores, the mean debt for revolving and installment accounts is $ 15,015. Assume the standard deviation is $ 3540 and that debt amounts are normally distributed.
a.) What is the probability that the debt for a randomly selected borrower with good credit is more than $ 18000?
z = x-µ/α=.84322   Answer: .7995
only recived half credit for this answer…
b) Less than $ 10000?
.0793 WRONG!
d) No more than $ 14000?
.3897 WRONG!
3.Business week conducted a survey of graduates from 30 top MBA programs. On the basis of the survey assume that the mean annual salary for male and female graduates 10 years after graduation is 168,000 and $ 117,000, respectively. Assume that standard deviation for the male graduates is $ 40,000, and for the female graduates it is $ 25,000.
a) what is the probability that a simple random sample of 40 male graduates will provide a sample mean within $ 10,000 of the population mean, $ 168,000
Male Z= X-168000/40000 √n therefore Z=10000/40000 √40=.0395

Female Z= X-117000/25000 √n therefore p(-.0395 ≤ Z ≤ .0395= .5120 – .48802
Answer= .024
Got half credit, don’t know what i’m missing
5. A survey conducted by the American Automobile Association showed that a family of four spends an average of $ 215.60 per day while on vacation. Suppose a sample of 64 families of four vacationing at Niagara Falls resulted in a sample mean of $ 252.45 per day and a sample standard deviation of $ 74.50
a. Develop a 95% confidence interval estimate of the mean amount spent per
day by a family of four visiting Niagara Falls.
X=+or- 2a/2           α/√=.9476
Answer: 233.8 to 271.06 got half credit, again, don’t know what I did wrong.
b. Based on the confidence interval from part (a), does it appear that the population mean amount spent per day by families visiting Niagara Falls differs from the mean reported by the American Automobile Association? Explain
The survey seems fairly good. At the lowest interval the survey was only eighteen dollars off, and at the highest it was only 55.46 off. I got this completely wrong, I think I know why. Weigh in your thoughts also please.

Best answer:

Answer by jack
b. What is the probability that the flight will be no more than 5 minutes late?

LET X = AMOUNT OF TIME LATE IN MINS

OUR PDF FUNCTION IS, P(X) = 1/(140-120) = 1/20

THEREFORE,

PROB(LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO Y MINS LATE) = (Y-120)/20

SO, ANSWER IS, PROB = (125-120)/20 = 5/20 = 1/4

c. What is the probability that the flight will be more than 10 minutes late?

PROB(X>10) = 1- PROB(X<=10) = 1 - (130-120)/20 = 1 - 1/2 = 1/2

LET D BE THE DEBT AMOUNT, THIS MEANS THAT D ~ N(15,015,3540^2)
QUESTION IS ASKING FOR
P(D>18,000) = 1 – P(D<18,000) = 1 - P(X < (18,000-15,015)/3540) = 1 - P(X<0.8432)

NOW LOOK UP TABLES TO GET P(X<0.8432) = 0.8004417

AND SO, PROBABILITY IS P(D>18,000) = 1- 0.8004417 = 0.1995583

SORRY, AINT GOT TIME TO DO OTHER ONES FOR YOU. SEEM SIMPLE ENOUGH THOUGH!

Question by rosesbloom7: A friend paid back half of her debt through a credit counsel program? Is this legal? Did this hurt her credit?

Best answer:

Answer by Sgt Big Red
Yes it is legal and it did not hurt her score, it may not change it until all obligations have been paid.
But beware, it all depends upon who she worked with. She needs to check her credit report to make sure the balances are going down.

Avoid credit repair agencies that charge a fee to improve your FICO score by removing negative, but accurate, information from your credit reports. No one can force credit reporting agencies or lenders to remove accurate information from a credit report. Credit repair companies often take your money without delivering what they promise, or provide only temporary improvements of your score, sometimes by removing accurate information that will reappear later.

Question by a_bear_bear: How to improve bad credit score?
My credit score is currently at (570), and has been for about 3 years now. Most of my debt is from Hospital stays and the doctors who saw me during my stay. I had no health insurance at the time because I barely made enough money to survive. I have also had a friend whom I shared an apartment with steal my identity and sign up for credit cards and use them as her own while she went traveling across the country. Up until about a year ago when I went to apply for a loan so I could get a new car I didn’t even know these credit cards existed. Apparently I am in about $ 10,000 worth of debt. My boyfriend and I are moving to TAMPA FL next year and I will need to get my credit score up a little higher if I want to be able to rent an apartment. I make about $ 1000 a month, $ 250 of it goes to other bills and I’d say about $ 500 goes to other living expenses. About $ 200 a month right now is going towards saving for a car that I need desperately in order to get back and forth to work. I basically have $ 150 a month to spare as of right now. My dilemma is that I am willing to work with the collection agencies that keep bugging me on a daily basis but all of them seem to want my bills paid in full. Out of the 3 hospital bills $ 1800, $ 24000, and $ 2300 I don’t know how I can possibly pay them all off at one time. My question is should I start paying off the $ 200-$ 500 bills (My Ex-Friends) debt or should I worry about paying the big bills off first? I making my student loan payments on time which is helping out tremendously, but I am just so confused about how improve my credit score within the next year or so before I move. What is the credit score most landlords find acceptable now adays and what about car dealerships? If I can save $ 150 a month towards my debt for the time being will it be worth it eventually?

Best answer:

Answer by Slam Zone Radio
You should have gotten a lawyer and contacted the authorities about the friend long ago.

As long as you pay the hospital and doctors a little something every month on your bill, the collections company have nothing they can say – and you can send them a letter requesting they cease and desist their collection calls.

You can also request a deferment on your student loans based on your current economic situation.

You should have also contacted the card companies and informed them of the fraud, and had the cards frozen, you would not have been held liable.

Question by j: What is the best way to get this resolved?
I have not so good credit. However, all I owe is past dr. bills and its roughly $ 5,000 and I also have 2 credit card bills that were written off which wasnt but $ 2,000 together. Could I still pay even tho they were written off? I cant get any credit because I have past delinquent account ratings, bank revolving accounts, and delinquent credit ratings. What do these mean? Bank revolving accounts, what is that? Would my credit improve if I start paying these off even tho they are in the past? How long would it take b4 I see a difference in my credit ratings? Could I go to a credit counseling place and get these bills on 1 monthly payment or do they even deal with dr. bills under $ 10,000? Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Mars
I suggest you stop looking for credit and just live within your means. It would be better for you in the long run.

Question by espemartinez3: Becoming debt free – rising credit score?
I’m currently in the process of paying off all of my debt in a matter of 7 months. All of this debt is from credit cards – none of which are or have ever been delinquent. All are in good standing. My current score is 567. After these 7 months, I will only have my car loan left.

In your opinion, how long will it take my credit score to go up? Will my score drastically change?

Best answer:

Answer by redenz40
be prepared for your score to lower. Easiest way to explain the scoring system is this. Its a balance system. To much debt low score to much open credit (free credit) low score. Your score really is dependent on a scale of equal debt to income ratio

Best answer:

Answer by spifiman1
The only way medical bills show up on your credit bureau is if you do not pay them.

Just like utilities, cell phones, apartment/home rental payments, gym memberships and payday loans.

Question by Anonymous: Please help. How do you fix bad credit from high medical bills?
My fiance had one late payment on bank loan for medical bills. He has since paid off this loan in full.

When he was in the hospital for an extended amount of time, his only credit card was sent to a collection agency. His credit report does not reflect that he ever paid the amount off, even though he later located the collection agency and paid in full.

He owes $ 0 of debt of any kind now. He uses a debit card and owns his car. He had a hard time qualifying for an apartment, though he finally got one with a large fee. I feel bad for him, because medical bills can happen to anyone. What can he do to repair his credit? Will it improve on its own, or is there anything he could do?

Best answer:

Answer by Wuviewoo
he needs to build up good credit history again he should get a credit card but just use it for the things hes normally buying anyway like food and gas etc and then pay the full balance at the end of the month. If he can’t get approved for a regular credit card he could try getting a secure credit card they are specifically made for people with bad or no credit.
