Only if this is a community property state, she would be entitled to half of the property obtained during the marriage, but that will not include the inheritance unless it is ordered by a judge. She needs to have this fought out in court and she needs an attorney. If she is not comfortable with this attorney, then she should find another.

I noticed this happen with my credit card recently as well. I think it's a combo of falling interest rates and a better score. If you have had this card for a while, you probably have a good history with it.

Your interest rate is probably tied to the Fed rate. As it goes up or down, so does your rate.

It's most likely the commercial banks lowering prime rate 2.50% over the last several months and change. Most credit card rates are tied to prime, and that falls when the fed funds rate are lowered.

Either way, your interest rate is still way too high if you're carrying a balance. Call the credit card issuer and ask them to lower it if you're currently paying finance charges.

Seven years. But make sure everything on your credit report is actually yours. Credit Bureaus make mistakes, as do any other business, and there is always the possibility that something on your report is someone else's. It happened to my husband and it took about six months, but we got them taken off.

If you pay them off in a consumer credit payback program, the bad ratings usually stay seven years, and are screened by potential credit issuers to see how you paid back the arrears. If you abandoned the owed accounts or are slower to pay off, the bad ratings stay ten years after pay off or are placed on P&L. Different state may have different policies, though.

Interesting case... I heard on Public Radio that the banks and creditors had no obligation of reducing the interests to their customers due to the FED change but some were considering that option... maybe you got lucky here.

Rates automatically decreasing (just because you are paying in time) without a phone call? I can tell you this never happened to me:-(

They stay on there until the account is paid off. Once it's paid off, the black mark will stay for about 7 years. If you declare bankruptcy, that will be on your record for 7-10 years.

If you know you want to file, get the mandatory bankruptcy (mandatory as of 10/16/2005) credit counseling session out of the way. You can find a list of the US Trustee approved providers at the US Trustee website at www.usdoj.gov/ust. It will be on the internet, phone or in person, depending who you choose to go through it with. If you think you'll have questions, you may prefer phone over internet, but you are going to have to do it to do a bankruptcy so go ahead and get it out of the way if you plan to file within 180 days. Also consult a bankruptcy attorney so you can get the ball rolling with the bankruptcy.

Yeah, I used a credit repair service and they worked out really well. I would recommend them to anyone because in less than a year my score went way up, and I can now get a credit card if I need one. I'm much smarter with my money and credit now, it totally raised my awareness and knowledge on how to keep my score high.

Check them out at http://www.idealhelpnow.com

There are some landlords who do not do credit checks and they may be happy to have a tenant who can offer first and last month's rent.

If the rental office is in the hands of an employee who does credit checks and lives by them, that will be a problem. You may have to ask to rent and have a check book visible in your shirt pocket.

Yes. I suggest your offer the landlord a three (3) month deposit. Landlords want to know that they will get their money every month ON TIME. Try to get your employer to write a letter showing that you have a steady income and you are not going to get laid off next week.

I don't know about "horrible," but those negatives are certainly not going to help your credit score. And if you never pay off past balances that you owe, it will continue to affect your credit score for many years.

Have you considered trying to talk to the company you're having issues with to come up with a solution? If you're patient (and persistent), you may be able to come to some sort of compromise. Or if you have proof that you don't owe them money, you should show it to them so you can resolve the problem and fix your credit report.

Any "negative" on your credit report will hurt your credit score. If you pay the balance owed, however, and continue to pay at least the minimum payment for all your bills on time every month, those "positives" will start to help your credit score. And after 7 years, those negative items will drop off your report completely.
