Don't trade it in or you'll be even worse off. Look at the low blue book value online and at your loan amount. Somehow or someway save the difference in cash (sell personal items or work overtime, etc...) Then, Sell the van privately for the low blue book value (and post that on the van itself to advertise that you're honest about it) and use the money you sell it for and your saved money to pay off the loan.

Most importantly, don't get yourself in this mess again. So, shop around for a used 2-3 yrs. old vehicle that has already depreciated. Don't be afraid to buy privately, just inspect each car thoroughly and research it online first. If your credit is poor and you can't get a loan on a newer-used car maybe you can get by with a beater-car($ 300 or so) until your credit looks better. I'm not sure how long it will take for your car pay-off to show up on your credit report, but when it does you will qualify for a bigger loan.

www.annualcreditreport.com is the the site the gov required the Credit Bureaus to set up. If you haven't gotten you free annual credit report go to that site. It will take you to each site for your free report. You have to pay for your scores if you want them but the reports are free.

Try to talk to you ex see if she will take the mini-van? Having Poor Credit and upside down on a vehicle is going to be impossible to get a trade in. Dealers aren't going to deal with you since you have negative equity and bad credit. You can rebuild your credit by reducing your overall debit (i.e. pay off your debits); pay your bills on time; have several accounts in good standing with less than 50% of available credit used. Rebuilding your credit takes years though. I have been paying my bills ontime and working on my credit for 5 years now and I have only gone from Poor to the upper part of Fair not quite to good yet.

Options: 1) save up for a used car (I know very hard to do with the economy right now)
                2) Talk to friends or family see if they can loan you the money for a used car
                3) Stop paying on your mini van and have them repossess it. Then you get right of it, it will mess up your credit but, hey it's already poor.

Good luck.

Don't do it. Its a scam.

Credit reporting companies are not the same as the Credit Bureaus themselves.

The 3 bureaus are:
TransUnion
Equifax
Experian

They calculate your score. The companies that run credit retrieve the scores from the bureaus on your behalf, and 2 different companies will vary in the results on the same day.

You respond to a credit reporting company that sells your name and number on a call database.

Whenever you have your credit pulled you get a million calls regardless... but I think the best way to keep tabs on your credit is to call Experian directly and just pay for it.

No, you didn't miss anything. I'm assuming you got your free credit reports from the three major bureaus by going to www.AnnualCreditReport.com. While it's nice to get your reports, unfortunately it doesn't come with free scores.....you have to pay for them. If you do it while you're in there, they're pretty reasonable. You can try to get back in and see if you can purchase them for less through www.AnnualCreditReport.com.

If you can't, then heres a link to get them as well: http://www.credittrauma.com/bad-credit-credit-offers/credit-reports-scores/

There is a way.... Just write the Credit Reporting Agencies and ask for your once yearly free Credit Report. Another way is to apply for any type of credit that you won't qualify for. When you get the rejection slip mail a copy of it to all the Credit Agencies and ask for your free credit report. You can get one that way.

Scores must be paid for.

Go to either myfico.com or Equifax.com if you want a true F.I.C.O. score. I think they cost around $ 8.00.

Whatever you do, do not let your future husband buy a house before marriage in his name only.
In cas of divorce 10 years down the road you will have NO rights to this home since it was a prior investment before marriage.
In divorce you can not go after previous property. Including pre marriage 401K's and IRA's. That's why you see wealthy people buying prperties before marriage - to lock up money.

First of all, when you get married your score will not plummet. It will remain the same. Your scores will not combine.

However, if you go to buy a house, the mortage people will look at both sets of scores. Now, if you can afford to get the mortgage on your salary alone, her credit score will not matter. Before you buy, you should save up a 20% downpayment and work on increasing your score to 720 or so for better financing terms. 650 is considered on the low side of fair.

If you will be financing together, once you are married, work on raising her score.

But, if you go to buy a house, the mortage people will look at both sets of scores. Now, if you can afford to get the mortgage on your salary alone, her credit score will not matter. Before you buy, you must save up a 20% downpayment and work on increasing your score to 720 or so for better financing terms. 650 is considered on the low side of honest.

Perceived Risk, Why?, because your debt balance to limit ratio. Lenders or anyone looking at your credit history (employers, landlords, Obama) like to see low ratios. They believe it translate to less risk in terms of you walking away from your debts. Eg if you owed $ 50 on a card with a $ 100 limit your DBTL ratio would be 50% COMPARED to you owing that same $ 50 on a card with a $ 200 limit your DBTL ration would then be 25%. They figure if they can get interest up front prior to the individual walking away. Unfortunately eventually it all trickles down. We all end up paying for those that walk away. Aka the Real Estate bubble. People bought more house than they really could afford walked away & those whom were responsible end up paying in the end...

Knowing where you stand from the standpoint of lenders is key

A FREE credit score aka the FICO Score from the Big 3 Credit Reporting Agencies (Equifax, Transunion & Experian) does not

exist. There are numerous sites link from banks & or credit card companies which have "estimator" nevertheless they don't

offer a specific score but rather a range.

HOWEVER by law you are entitled to a free credit report from each of the Big 3 Credit Reporting Agencies once a year by

going to: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp. I personally use this once every trimester to make certain that

the credit cards, mortgages etc they have listed are in fact those I have opened. Basically it is your way of doing your own

credit monitoring without having to sign up to some program at $ 19.95+ a month.

For more info on what makes up your credit score, whom has access to it, what is or is not a good score Please try:

As was previously mentioned, the credit card companies charge different rates for borrows based on the "riskiness" of getting paid back. The greater the risk of not getting paid back, the higher the interest rate. Same goes for car insurance premiums. The safer the driver, the lower the premiums you pay.

Also, with the new CARD Act that was signed into law, the credit card companies can only raise your interest rate if your promotional period ends, you have a variable rate card, or if you make a late payment. Any other changes to your account terms and conditions must be made in writing and allow you to opt out.

And lastly, if you pay your credit card on time and the credit card company raises your rate, simply call them and ask to have it lowered. I have done it countless times. I call and ask if they have a better rate they can offer me. They put me on hold for a moment then offer me a lower rate, usually 5-8% less than what it was. If they balk, stand firm and tell them you are a good customer and pay on time. It's cheaper for them to keep a customer than to find a new one.
